In 2007, there were 365,677 high school players nationwide, while 15,906 NCAA softball players took the field for 265 Division I schools offering a total of 3, 180 scholarships. Division-II (256 schools; 1817 scholarships) and Division-III, with 396 teams brought the total school teams to more than 900.
