Encouragement, Accountability Help Bon Secours VP Knock out Bad Habits

Vickie Humphries, vice president of Human Resources for Bon Secours Hampton Roads, signed up for the Bon Secours Virginia Employee Wellness program Choose to Lose last fall. As part of that program, Humphries lost several inches and 25 pounds. The Choose to Lose webinars and sessions with a dietitian helped Humphries understand the importance of healthy habits and how she could incorporate them into her life.  InMotionStory

At the conclusion of that program, Humphries was motivated and turned to Bon Secours In Motion to continue her wellness journey.

Below, Humphries shares her story.
Q: What have you learned?
A: I have learned that you have to make the time and make the commitment to follow through. That is one of the reasons that I chose to continue working on my fitness through Bon Secours In Motion after the Choose to Lose program ended. Bon Secours employees get a wonderful discount at In Motion that includes consults with trainers and dietitians. It can be paid for through payroll deduction.

Q: Why are you seeing results? What is working for you?
A: Because I have support and trainers and dietitians to help hold me accountable.

Q: What changes have you made?
A: I now have a routine that includes exercise and more healthy eating habits. Part of the Bon
Secours Wellness Choose to Lose program included webinars and sessions with Judy Mitnick, a dietitian at Healthy Way. She was very helpful with tips and guidance, such as managing carbs and keeping a food log. I use My Fitness Pal, an online tool, to log what I eat, which forces me to be more accountable to myself for my diet.

Q: What changes are you still looking to make?
A: I’m still looking to continue to lose more weight and improve my fitness level.

Q: What has been the hardest to overcome?
A: Changing my eating and exercise habits. I have to stay focused every day, or it is easy for me to slip back to old ways.

Q: What does a typical week look like for you now?
A: I work out three days a week with Bon Secours In Motion trainers at the Virginia Beach location. The
trainers genuinely care about me achieving my fitness and weight-loss goals. I’m grateful Bon Secours offers all kinds of wellness programs to help all of us make improvements in our health.
